There is a huge deficit in cancer treatment facility in Eastern India. Hence, a large number of cancer patients from Eastern India and neighboring country of Bangladesh regularly visit either Mumbai or Chennai for treatment and advice. It is extremely difficult for them to stay far from their native place for many months for treatment. There is a need for a treatment facility at their native place. Many patients present in advanced stage as early detection and treatment facilities are not available in majority of two tier cities.
Bengal Cancer Foundation Charitable trust was established by eminent oncologist Professor Debnarayan Dutta, Professor & head, Radiation Oncology & CyberKnife Specialist, Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences, Kochi, INDIA in 2012 with an objective to make cancer facility available in two tier cities of Bengal.
Prof Dutta is an eminent scholar trained at Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai and worked for many years at Apollo Speciality Cancer Hospital, Chennai before joining as head of the department at prestigious Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences, Kochi. Bengal Cancer Foundation trust started as a small patient support facility at Kolkata in 2012. However, the need for full-fledged cancer hospital in two tier cities of West Bengal was felt soon and hence in 2018 work was started at Dr Dutta’s home town Burdwan to start a full-fleged cancer hospital. In 2022, 50 bedded full-fledged cancer hospital was started at Nababhat, Burdwan.
‘Bengal Cancer Foundation’ (BCF) is a full-fledged dedicated cancer hospital at Renaissance township, Nababhat, Burdwan, West Bengal. BCF is meant for 360 degree cancer care for patients in and around Burdwan district. This stand-alone cancer facility is well equipped with medical, radiation therapy, surgical oncology and supportive care facilities. All major cancer diagnostics such as radiology (CT scan, USG, mammography), biopsy, tumour markers, cytology, histopathology and routine blood examinations are done. In supportive care nutrition therapy, rehabilitation facility, dental care, mental health services are available. There are various routine screening facilities for cancer patients and general population of different age group.
At present, Bengal Cancer Foundation serving with Sastha Sathi scheme and other insurances scheme for chemotherapy, radiation therapy, onco-surgery and supportive care facilities. Mission of BCF is to provide affordable world class and ethical cancer care close to home in two tier cities of West Bengal.
