Full-Fledged Dedicated Cancer Hospital
‘Bengal Cancer Foundation’ (BCF) is a full-fledged dedicated cancer hospital at Renaissance township, Nababhat, Burdwan, West Bengal. BCF is meant for 360 degree cancer care for patients in and around Burdwan district. This stand-alone cancer facility is well equipped with medical, radiation therapy, surgical oncology and supportive care facilities. All major cancer diagnostics such as radiology (CT scan, USG, mammography), biopsy, tumour markers, cytology, histopathology and routine blood examinations are done. In supportive care nutrition therapy, rehabilitation facility, dental care, mental health services are available. There are various routine screening facilities for cancer patients and general population of different age group.
In medical Oncology, solid and haematological malignancies are treated by experts. Chemotherapy is delivered under strict medical supervision by trained nurses. Chemotherapy is delivered in aseptic condition and chemo mixing done in biosafety cabinet as standard of care.
In Radiation Oncology services, modern linear accelerator facility is available at BCF. Modern helical image guidance radiation therapy (Siddharth II LA machine). Radiation therapy facility will be clinical in February 2024. There is a facility of brachytherapy facility as well. Brachytherapy will be functional late 2024.
Supportive care and rehabilitation services are critical for cancer care and there is a dedicated services for nutrition care, physiotherapy, dental care and mental health care. There is dedicated cancer genetics and counselling department.
Bengal Cancer Foundation Hospital premises is owned by 3D Medicare Pvt Ltd and supported by Bengal Cancer Foundation Charitable Trust. BCF is committed to support underprivileged cancer patients with government schemes (Sastha Sathi) and provide subsidised treatment in all cancer treatments (Chemotherapy, Radiation therapy, Surgery). Majority of TPAs and insurances agreements are available.
Research and education are an integral part of treatment facility at BCF. There is scope for training in nursing, supportive and vocational service. There are ethical committee approved ongoing clinical protocols and research activity.

DIAGNOSTICS
Bengal Cancer Foundation have all required basic diagnostic facilities required for cancer diagnosis and treatment. The main focus of diagnosis is to conduct biopsy and immune-histochemistry (IHC) from all cancer sites and confirm the diagnosis. All routine investigations required for chemotherapy are done within an hour. All procedures (plural, peritoneal fluid, CSF cytology, bone marrow aspiration, bone biopsy) are performed by experts with years of experience from reputed institutes.

MEDICAL ONCOLOGY
Day Care Chemotherapy
Day care chemotherapy with specialized ‘chemo chair’ facility is the most convinent and useful facility at Bengal Cancer Foundation. All chemo mixing done by specialized nurse and pharmacist under stringent medical supervision with ‘Biosafety cabinet’. There is stringent supervision regarding dosage amount, duration and monitoring of any complications. ‘Day Care Chemotherapy’ patients are discharged after chemotherapy infusion and observation.
Patients needs overnight chemotherapy infusion or more than one day chemotherapy are admitted in ‘Chemo ward’ under stringent medical supervision and nursing care. Medical officers observe the patients 24×7. Chemotherapy infusion done as per the instruction from the treating consultant.
There is a provision of well-equipped Intensive care facility (ICU) in case any patient needs emergency care. Four bedded ICU is well equipped with monitors, ventilators and all other emergency gadgets. There is 24×7 medical officer and trained nurses available for emergency care.
Haematological malignancy unit will be established soon with provision of bone marrow transplant services.
Emergency care after Chemotherapy
There is a four bedded 24×7 emergency facility for patients having complications after chemotherapy. Patients with haematological, gastrointestinal and other complications are taken care on urgent basis in emergency unit.
Febrile neutropenia care
There is a special isolated febrile neutropenia care facility of patients with low blood count and high risk of infection.
RADIATION ONCOLOGY
Linear Accelerator
Radiation therapy is an important speciality in cancer care. Most than 70% of patients need radiation therapy either as radical (curative) intent or as palliative intent during their course of treatment. Bengal Cancer Foundation have one of the most advanced helical radiation therapy facility (Siddharth II). This Linear accelerator have 6/15 MV energy, CT scan (KV) image guided radiation therapy (IGRT), helical radiation therapy delivery features, IMRT & VMAT facility, 6D couch rotation / correction option facility. The planning system is the most modern ‘Ray station’ planning system.
Radiation therapy equipped to treat with 1) palliative radiation therapy, 2) Radical Radiation therapy 3) Electron beam therapy. Modern immobilization system and mould room facility will provide precision radiation therapy delivery.

SURGICAL ONCOLOGY
Bengal Cancer Foundation is committed to have the ‘state of the art’ surgical oncology facility, with laminar flow, negative pressure operation theatre facility, advanced monitoring system, modern anaesthesia machines and operation tools. BCF have modern operation theatre facility, laparoscope facility, anaesthesia work station and all modern operation instruments.
Surgical Oncology team comprises of expert senior consultant onco-surgeons from reputed centres. Their expertise is at par excellence with most reputed onco-surgeons. The support team of technicians and nurses are very well trained. There is colostomy (stroma) care, tracheostomy care, chemo-port insertion and post-operative rehabilitation care services. Post-operative HDU unit is well equipped with modern equipment and trained man power. Most of the major onco-surgeries are happening at the facility: head and neck flap reconstruction, colon resection, abdominoperineal resection, hysterectomies and many more.
SUPPORTIVE SERVICES
REHABILITATION & PHYSIOTHERAPY
Physiotherapy and rehabilitation are one of the most important supportive care after cancer therapy – radiation therapy, chemotherapy and surgery. After aggressive surgery patients needs rehabilitation. After radiation therapy, patients need rehabilitation to overcome toxicities.
There is a dedicated rehabilitation team to take care of post-operative complications and post-radiation therapy issues. Regular consultation and sessions are done for post-mastectomy arm oedema management, pedal oedema, hemiparesis.
Speech therapy, vocational training, swallowing therapy, lymphoedema management are also included in rehabilitation therapy.
DENTAL CARE
Head & neck cancer is the most common cancer in Indian males. Majority of these patients need surgery and radiation therapy. These patients need dental care before surgery, before radiation therapy and after radiation therapy for life long. Dental care is important for post radiation care, for diagnosis of cancer and biopsy. There is a expert team of dental surgeons take care of patients on regular basis.
NUTRITION
Cancer patients need special care to maintain nutrition during chemotherapy, surgery, and radiation therapy. Lack of appetite may reduce weight and calorie intake. Cancer cells itself takeaway a lot of calories and hence, there is a need for additional calorie and balanced diet. Nutritionists play an important role in cancer patient support system. There is a dedicated nutritionist team to guide the diet and calorie intake during and after treatment.
AYURVEDIC MEDICATION AND ORGANIC FOOD:
Organic food does not have pesticides and are healthy for kids and elderly people. Organic food is a rich source of vitamins and minerals. Bengal Cancer Foundation promotes organic food and have a ‘organic food’ counter at the facility.
Ayurvedic medicines with minimal toxicities may be extremely helpful in alleviating side-effects of chemotherapy and radiation therapy. BCF have an organic medicine counter at the facility for patients require these medications.
ORGANIC COSMETICS AND PROSTHESIS:
Cancer patients may have reaction with synthetic cosmetics and chemicals. Organic cosmetics may be useful and safer for the skin. Hair loss is common after chemotherapy. Appropriate wigs and scruffs motivate patients, give them confidence and are available at Bengal Cancer Foundation cosmetics counter. Motivational books and mementos are also available for the patients.
ORTHOSIS
Cancer patients need many kinds of prosthesis and orthosis to improve quality of life and maintain normal lifestyle. Splints for foot drop, wrist drop, tailors brace for backpain, vaginal dilator, stockings, mouth opener, lymphoedema bandage and many more. There is a need for these tools to be available under one roof and BCF store have made it possible.
CANCER SCREENING
Cancer screening is one of the flagship project and mission for Bengal Cancer Foundation Charitable Trust. Cervical Cancer screening, breast cancer screening, head & neck cancer screening are the most important screening programs run by BCF Charitable trust and Lions Club of Burdwan Cancer Care.
There are regular cancer screening programs organized at villages for cervical and breast cancer detection. Among males more than 50 years, general screening for oral hygiene, lung cancer among smokers and prostate cancer tests are done. In females more than 40 years breast and cervical cancer screening done.
Cervical Cancer vaccine among young females is one of the flagship initiative.
